Well the theories are many - even as to the question of whether or not they are actual lifeforms or alternatively - artificially created 'Bio-Organic Androids'.Think about it travelling around in space might not necessarily be the most easiest thing going in the world - to have to do - could well be that its even very cramped inside of those disc or saucer like ships they fly in - therefore might not an extremely advanced race of ETs go about manufacturing a worker-bee type of entity that goes about doing all the hard work or drudgery of interstellar exploration itself - ok lots to say on this...more in time - to be updated....
I hate to burst your bubble, however, if we could make a space craft to sustain the punishment from outer space, we would still have the speed problem. If we could travel ten times the speed of light, it would take about a thousand years to leave just our galaxy. The same goes for incoming. When my Mom was a kid, science fiction was going to the Moon, I know anything is possible, but so is winning the lotto, daily for a thousand years.
